Baldota Foundation

The Abheraj Baldota Foundation was established in the year 1976 after our founder Chairman Shri Abheraj Hirachand Baldota. The Business & Community Foundation was registered under the Societies Act of 1860 on July 1998. BCF has its origin with International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) of the UK , a nonprofit entity. Both organisations are independent of each other and co-operate as required through a MOU.

Late Mr.Abhiraj baldota was known for his business skills,humanitarian nature and his active involvement in social work. The Foundation is a registered Charitable Trust, through which we route our contributions to social welfare. We have provided health care facilities and assistance towards health care, financial support to poor families and developed education centers for the less privileged children. The Foundation since its commencement has been instrumental in our social commitments and contributions. The Baldota foundation partners with 14 grass root projects across 8 states of India addressing some important issues such as homelessness, education, health, disability, farm widows in Vidarbha , mentally challenged, tribal, infant and maternal mortality and vocational training.

Vision and Mission

The Baldota Foundation has a very clear mission statement which is to promote awareness and practice of responsible citizenship, where people have access and control over resources to make informed choices and decisions for a more fair society.


The strategy that Baldota focuses on revolves around the activation of core competence and resource of business, academic, civil society, multi and bilateral institutions and the government. Their emphasis lies around facilitating their working partners to develop projects that benefit the marginalised and less fortunate communities.

Governing Body

Mr.Simon J. Scarff is the Non Executive Chairman of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Ltd. He plays the role of the Chairman for Baldota Foundation. Mr. Scarff began his career at Horlicks Limited, UK and was the first in India responsible for marketing and sales of the company in Nabha, Punjab, before he retraced to the UK Marketing division again. In 1974, he was appointed Coordinator on the Consumer Brands business in Nigeria. In 1976, he was appointed Regional Group Manager responsible for the Near and the Middle East, initially based in Cyprus and later in Dubai. He returned to India as the Managing Director on the 1st of June, 1978 and led the Company till October 2002. In January 1999, Mr. Scarff was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty Queen of England in the New Year’s Honour List (1999) for services to the British Industry. He is also the Director for several other Organizations and Chairman of Charitable Groups in India.
Mr.Katoch was a part of Cadbury before he joined the Bhumi Vardan Foundation . Mr Narender Katoch has been with Cadbury India since 1983 and is the anchor person for the global confectionery and beverage manufacturing organisation in Delhi. He specializes in the area of Corporate Affairs and interacts with various economic and commercial government departments. He is an active member of the Apex Chamber of Commerce & Industry as well. In addition, Mr Katoch is involved in cocoa development activities in South India as well.  He takes care of Cadbury’s chocolate factory located near Gwalior where the Gurkha community project is centered.  His keen interests lie in CSR activities within and outside of his organization.
Mr Bajaj is recognized as one of the most successful business leaders of India. Heading Bajaj Group of Companies, he is Chairman of the group’s flagship, Bajaj Auto Limited, India’s premier 2 and 3 wheeler company. Mr Bajaj was the president of CII (78-80/99-00) and was also awarded the “Padma Bhushan” by the President of India in March 2001. He was elected to the Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Maharashtra in June 2006.
Col. V.G. Deshmukh completed his education in Mumbai & Pune. He joined the Indian Army and was commissioned in the Armoured Corps in 1967. On retirement after an illustrious career in the Army in 2001, Col. V.G. Deshmukh joined Jankidevi Bajaj Gramvikas Sanstha on 1st January 2003. He is now instrumental in Integrated Rural Development activities of JBGVS.
Mark has been the face of  the British Diplomatic Service for over 25 years and has been to Delhi twice as the British Deputy High Commissioner. He has also been a part of the Mission to the UN in Paris and New York City. Mark is now in India working with the corporate and civil society sectors. Mark is an independent Director of the Business and Community Foundation and a member of the Research Advisory board of the Asia Energy Institute. It is based at The Energy and Resource Institute(TERI) where Mark used to be a senior Visiting Fellow.  He is on the Advisory Board of The Third Pole as well. Mark is the India Adviser to the Confederation of British Industry and runs the British Business Group in Delhi. He acts as a consultant to various businesses in India such as A4e , UK’s biggest provider of training for the long term unemployed; JMD Consultants, a successful Delhi-based market entry consultancy; Penn Schoen Berland, WPP-owned political and commercial communication strategists; and Liqvid, a global eLearning service provider. Mark is a promoter and Director of Sheffield Haworth ( India), a JV in executive search with a major UK firm in this field; and Canta Consulting, an education-focused consultancy. He is also on the Advisory Board of Avian Media, one of India’s fastest growing PR firms.He is a Non-Executive Director for renowned companies such as Religare Capital Markets,  MindTree Ltd,  G4S Corporate Services ( India) Pvt. Ltd and Elara Capital ( India). He is currently residing in Delhi with his family and two beautiful desi dogs.
An IIM-B alumni and a masters in Economics from Delhi University, Mr.Himanshu Manglik has over a score of experience in marketing, communication and brand building. He has worked with the senior management in different business environments including traditional business houses, companies in turnaround situations and MNCs. A stalwart in his profession, Mr.Himanshu is acknowledged by colleagues and friends for values and integrity, focus and passion, marketing and communication skills, and a wide perspective.
Mr Narendrakumar A. Baldota is the Chairman and Managing Director of the Baldota Group of Companies. He was instrumental in the day to day operations of the company for over five decades. Following his efforts, the Baldota group diversified and achieved the title of the largest independent power generation company in the country. He initiated measures for conservation of the environment and soil protection through afforestation and soil plantations, even before the legislative measures were introduced and was acknowledged with numerous awards and recognitions.
Ms.Rati Forbes has been a director at Forbes Marshall and has been involved in overseeing the Human Resources function until recently. During this time, Forbes Marshall has been honored thrice with one of India’s top 25 great places to work by the Great Places to Work Institute, acquiring the 5th rank nationally in 2012. Ms. Rati graduated with Psychology and Sociology from Bombay University and has further specialized in Human Resources, Organizational Behavior and Strategic Philanthropy. She has also completed her two year masters course in Sustainability Leadership from Cambridge, UK. She focuses completely on the social initiatives that have been driven by the company over the last five decades. She has initiated several programs for under privileged women and children from the neighboring communities, the key areas of concern being health, education and women’s empowerment.  Ms. Rati directed CII Western region’s cell for social development from 2002 to 2006, the main objective being to sensitize corporates towards their social responsibility. She is proactive with CII’s outreach programs for skill development. She is also on the board for foundations such as Mobile Crèche, Pune, Akanksha Foundation, the Centre for Learning Resources, Pragati Foundation and others.
