Vyasanakere Iron Ore Mine

Our Vyasanakere Iron Ore Mine (VIOM), an open cast iron ore mine, is located 12 kms from Hosapete town. It is one of the largest privately owned Iron Ore mines in the Ballari-Hosapete region. The mine spans across an area of 347.22 hectare and is approachable from National Highway No.13. The Vyasanakere railway station is only 3 Km from the mine and is accessible by a dedicated road. Float ore mining was carried between 1962 and 1977.  The mechanisation of the mine was carried in stages from 1977, with the introduction of excavators and pay loaders. The Iron processing plants were established from 1982 to increase the capacity and product range. The process includes Wet Beneficiation to improve the quality. The VIOM has production infrastructure of 2.5 million tonnes, which was a reality during 2006-07 (as per environment clearance).  However, the present production is restricted to 0.91 million tonnes, due to regulatory norms to the sector.   Geology & Reserves: The mine is part of Ramanadurg Range of Sandur Schist belt of Dharwar craton which is known for major mineralization in Karnataka. The main iron ore body occurs as a reef striking north-west and south-east. As per the approved mining plan, the VIOM is estimated to have 20.93 million tonnes of Iron Ore reserves at an average grade of 65.0% Fe. Mining & Processing: VIOM is a fully mechanised, open-cast mine. It has an environment-friendly downhill conveyor system, as a part of the processing plant consists of primary and secondary crushing & screening, wet processing etc.  The capacity of the plant is 475 Tonnes per hour. The product range is as follows; Fines (0-10 mm) Calibrated lump ore (10-35 mm) High Tumbler Ore (+5-20 mm) Our VIOM is one of the first mines to get certification for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 for quality, environment, and Occupational Health & Safety practices.
